The house
Bortnikoff is a perfume house founded in 2018 in Thailand by Dmitry Bortnikoff, an architect by training and a perfumer by calling. In 2013, he co-founded Feel-Oud, a distillery specializing in some of the finest oud and sandalwood oils in the world. Many of the oils in his fragrances are distilled by the house itself, using 19th-century techniques. Each composition contains 95 to 100% natural ingredients. The range is divided into several collections: Main, Ouds, Elixir, Cologne and Entry Level.

Musk Khabib is a Bortnikoff Extrait de Parfum from the musky amber family. It opens on bergamot, cardamom and nutmeg, moves through a heart of ylang-ylang, cedar and Tolu balsam, then settles on a base of musk, ambergris, oakmoss, vetiver, tonka bean and vanilla. Its extrait concentration gives it a strong sillage and a longevity that lasts well beyond a full day. It is a powerful, warm musk, designed to last on the skin.
In Bortnikoff's Main collection, Musk Khabib is the fragrance that takes on musk head-on, whereas Siberia pairs a Siberian deer musk with oakmoss, benzoin and a Burmese oud. Like everything from the house founded in Thailand by Dmitry Bortnikoff, it relies on 95 to 100% natural ingredients and 19th-century distillation techniques. Those who love this amber, vanilla base may also look to Chypre du Nord, which shares oakmoss, musk and tonka bean.
Yes, it is unisex: its accord of musk, ambergris and vanilla is worn equally well by a man or a woman.
It is an Extrait de Parfum, and the house highlights its longevity and sillage. Expect around ten hours on the skin, and longer on clothing.
No. Here the musk is warm and dense, supported by ambergris, oakmoss and tonka bean. It evokes skin and amber far more than clean laundry.
50 / 2 ml, Musky amber
by Bortnikoff
Musk Khabib is built around a refined musk, a material admired since time immemorial for its mysterious, sensual character. Dmitry Bortnikoff did not want it to be discreet: he surrounded it with ambergris, oakmoss and tonka bean to give it body. The result is powerful, yet keeps true staying power. It is a fragrance that asserts an inner strength rather than showing it off.
The opening sets an oriental accent, with bergamot spiked with cardamom and nutmeg. Then the citrus recedes before a warmer, denser heart of ylang-ylang, Tolu balsam and cedar. The base then reveals the fragrance's true identity: musk, ambergris, vanilla, tonka, oakmoss and vetiver. The house emphasizes its sillage and longevity, which leave a distinct trail behind you.
Bergamot brightens the opening, immediately lifted by cardamom and nutmeg. The tone is set: luminous, but already spiced.
The citrus fades and gives way to a creamy ylang-ylang, backed by cedar and the resinous sweetness of Tolu balsam.
Musk takes center stage, wrapped in ambergris, vanilla and tonka bean. Oakmoss and vetiver give it a lasting earthy foundation.
Some presences are noticed before they even speak.
For those who love frank, warm, full-bodied musks, far from clean white musks. It will appeal to lovers of woody ambers who want a fragrance that lasts all day and gets noticed without shouting. Wear it from fall to late winter, preferably in the evening or for an occasion where you want to make an impression. Two sprays are enough, at the base of the neck and on the wrist; on a sweater or scarf, the musky base remains noticeable until the next day.
Dmitry Bortnikoff is an architect by training. He turned to distillation: in 2013, he co-founded Feel-Oud, a company that distills oud and sandalwood oils, for which he also signs several perfumes. In 2018, he founded his own house, Bortnikoff, in Thailand. Much of the oil he uses is distilled there on site, following 19th-century methods, and his compositions contain 95 to 100% natural ingredients.
He distills some materials himself, including a wild oud from Sri Lanka that he also uses as a tincture. He composes most of his perfumes alone. He co-signed a few with Rajesh Balkrishnan, then a collection with Christian Carbonnel. His son Maxim trained alongside him.
