The house
Bortnikoff is a perfume house founded in 2018 in Thailand by Dmitry Bortnikoff, an architect by training and a perfumer by calling. In 2013, he co-founded Feel-Oud, a distillery specializing in some of the finest oud and sandalwood oils in the world. Many of the oils in his fragrances are distilled by the house itself, using 19th-century techniques. Each composition contains 95 to 100% natural ingredients. The range is divided into several collections: Main, Ouds, Elixir, Cologne and Entry Level.

Lao Oud is a Bortnikoff Extrait de Parfum from the woody gourmand family, built around a rare Laotian oud oil with notes of honey and flowers. Pink pepper and magnolia open the composition, followed by a heart of beeswax, cinnamon, chamomile, Peru balsam and cocoa. The base combines Laotian oud, Indian oud, coffee, tonka bean, vanilla, guaiac wood, crocodile wood and birch tar. A dense, warm oud and coffee fragrance.
Lao Oud is part of the Ouds collection by Bortnikoff, alongside Oud Maximus and Oud Hindi. Coffee lovers will also know Manie du Café, in the main collection, where coffee meets castoreum and vanilla. According to the house, Lao Oud remains the richest in oud and coffee of its entire collection.
Yes, like all Bortnikoff fragrances. Its coffee and oud accord appeals as much to men as to women who love warm fragrances.
More than 12 hours on skin: it is an Extrait heavily loaded with oud, over a base of coffee, vanilla and woods.
Partly. Coffee, cocoa, beeswax and vanilla give it a gourmand facet, but the Laotian and Indian ouds keep the leading role.

by Bortnikoff
Dmitry Bortnikoff has composed many fragrances around oud, but never with a note as intense and primal as in Lao Oud. It all begins with a rare oil acquired in Laos a few years ago, which smells of honey and flowers with a wild depth. He considers this oud as deep as Indian oud, yet softer and more harmonious.
The perfumer has traveled to Laos more than twenty times. He remembers it as a serene and welcoming land of ancient monasteries and misty mornings, where time seems to have kept the rhythm of the 19th century. Lao Oud was born from these images: a fragrant stroll through Vientiane, the quiet capital on the banks of the Mekong. The house presents it as probably the fragrance richest in oud and coffee in the entire Bortnikoff collection.
A brief, peppery and floral opening that quickly gives way to the raw materials.
Beeswax, cinnamon and cocoa form a warm, honeyed heart, softened by chamomile and Peru balsam.
Laotian oud, deep yet softer than Indian oud, joins coffee, vanilla and guaiac wood. Birch tar adds a subtle smokiness.
Some journeys are not told, they are breathed in at the wrist.
For oud lovers who enjoy gourmand accords, and for those looking for a coffee fragrance that keeps the wood in the foreground. It comes into its own in fall and winter, in the evening or on cold days. Two sprays on the skin are enough; on a scarf, the coffee and oud accord lasts even longer.
Dmitry Bortnikoff is an architect by training. He turned to distillation: in 2013, he co-founded Feel-Oud, a company that distills oud and sandalwood oils, for which he also signs several perfumes. In 2018, he founded his own house, Bortnikoff, in Thailand. Much of the oil he uses is distilled there on site, following 19th-century methods, and his compositions contain 95 to 100% natural ingredients.
He distills some materials himself, including a wild oud from Sri Lanka that he also uses as a tincture. He composes most of his perfumes alone. He co-signed a few with Rajesh Balkrishnan, then a collection with Christian Carbonnel. His son Maxim trained alongside him.
