Cleopatra bathed in rose petals and drank rose tea sweetened with Nile honey. Melos takes up the ritual as it was, without trying to modernize it. The name blends honey and rose tea.
The milky note in the base is what sets Melos apart from the honeyed roses found elsewhere. It arrives late and changes the texture of the fragrance more than its scent, giving it an almost edible roundness.
Rose tea, grape and grapefruit open clear and slightly tangy, like an infusion cooling down. Blackcurrant adds its green edge. The opening is light and gives no hint of the thickness of the heart.
Rose and honey form the heart, unshared. Saffron gives them a leathery facet, hazelnut and baked apple an edible texture. A rich, unabashedly gourmand heart that takes up most of the wear.
The milky note, musk and amber close on a creamy softness, with patchouli adding the only dark note. The base lasts a long time and stays close to the skin.
Cleopatra's ritual, taken up as it was.
For lovers of gourmand roses and milky bases. Melos is the most feminine-reading fragrance in the catalog, though nothing prevents it from being worn otherwise.
Wear from October to March, day or evening. Two sprays, with the honey growing thicker with body heat.
Andreas Wilhelm is a perfumer based in Zurich. He wanted to become a goldsmith, but with no apprenticeships available, a guidance counselor steered him towards an apprenticeship as a chemistry lab technician at Givaudan in Dübendorf, in 1993. He then trained as a perfumer at Luzi from 1999. He opened his own studio in 2008 and has also been the in-house perfumer at Weleda.
In 2017, he launched his label PERFUME.SUCKS, which prints the full list of ingredients on every bottle. He says he starts by writing a formula on the computer, then adjusts it through trials. With his clients, he compares himself to the car, with the client at the wheel. He received an Art and Olfaction Award in 2023.
