Pernoire est une maison de parfumerie de niche suisse, fondée en 2020 par Robin Dünner et Nico Mannino, deux amis d'enfance. Nico Mannino dirige la stratégie et les ventes, Robin Dünner la marque et la création. Andreas Wilhelm, parfumeur suisse et partenaire de la maison depuis ses débuts, signe l'intégralité des compositions. Tout est développé et produit en Suisse. Les quatorze parfums sont des extraits bâtis sur des essences naturelles rares, concentrés à 25 % pour la collection Anima, du latin anima, l'âme, et à 30 % pour la collection Odus, contraction des mots latins odor et intensus. La maison annonce une tenue supérieure à douze heures et un sillage large. En 2023, Mansa a été finaliste des Art and Olfaction Awards, dans le top 10 de plus de mille soumissions jugées à l'aveugle. Hors de Suisse, la marque est distribuée par quelques parfumeries de niche, dont Osswald à Zurich et Les Senteurs à Londres.

Mansa de Pernoire, élixir de générosité
Mansa est la composition qui a fait connaître Pernoire. En 2023, elle est entrée dans le top 10 des Art and Olfaction Awards, parmi plus de mille soumissions jugées à l'aveugle. La structure est celle d'un oriental à l'oud et à la rose, l'exécution est sobre : mûre et poivre rose à l'ouverture, oud, rose et safran au cœur, patchouli et mousse au fond. Huit à dix heures de tenue.
Le parfum doit son nom à Mansa Musa, souverain de l'empire du Mali, connu autant pour sa fortune que pour sa générosité. Mansa veut dire roi en maninka. Extrait de parfum à 25 %, 50 ml. La maison le range en automne et en hiver, surtout le soir. Il voisine avec Portrait of a Lady de Frederic Malle, Ombre Nomade de Louis Vuitton et Oud Wood de Tom Ford.

The spirit of the perfume
Mansa Musa ruled Mali in the 14th century and is said to be the richest man in history. He gave a good share of it away wherever he traveled. Mansa means king in Maninka, and the golden scepter on the bottle refers to both sides of the man.
In 2023, Mansa was a finalist at the Art and Olfaction Awards, in the top 10 of more than a thousand submissions judged blind by industry professionals. It is the house's only award to date. It went to a rose oud, the most well-trodden accord in oriental perfumery, which makes the result all the more notable.
The olfactory journey
Opening: peppered fruit
Blackberry and blackcurrant open juicy and dark. Pink pepper steps in at once and keeps them from turning syrupy. Iris lays down the first powdery touch, the one that will return in the base. The opening is brief; it serves as a threshold.
Heart: the royal accord
Oud, rose and saffron, the classic trio of orientals. Here it is handled without excess: the oud stays dry, the rose keeps its freshness, the leathery saffron makes the link. Amber rounds off the edges and avoids the block effect these compositions often take on. A legible rose oud, which is rare.
Base and sillage: earth and moss
Patchouli and moss set up an earthy base, and heliotrope brings back powder and a touch of almond. Musk lengthens the trail. Longevity is long and the sillage stays measured, which means Mansa can be worn during the day.

Who is it for?
For lovers of rose and oud orientals who dread heaviness. Mansa is the most approachable of the dark Pernoire fragrances, and the one to start with if you are discovering the house.
Wear from October to March, day or evening. Two sprays are enough. The earthy base holds better on skin than on clothing.
Composed by Andreas Wilhelm
Andreas Wilhelm is a perfumer based in Zurich. He wanted to become a goldsmith, but with no apprenticeships available, a guidance counselor steered him towards an apprenticeship as a chemistry lab technician at Givaudan in Dübendorf, in 1993. He then trained as a perfumer at Luzi from 1999. He opened his own studio in 2008 and has also been the in-house perfumer at Weleda.
In 2017, he launched his label PERFUME.SUCKS, which prints the full list of ingredients on every bottle. He says he starts by writing a formula on the computer, then adjusts it through trials. With his clients, he compares himself to the car, with the client at the wheel. He received an Art and Olfaction Award in 2023.
