Oui.

Amoral describes the absence of a moral sense. Neither good nor evil, only the goal. The Roman statue set on the bottle speaks of power and of what it costs the one who seizes it. It is the darkest of the eight fragrances in the Anima collection.
Andreas Wilhelm layers two registers that have no business being together: a smoky fruity accord led by prune and cumin, and an oud powdered with iris and violet. On paper, the two cancel each other out. On the skin, they hold, and the fragrance lives on that tension. Give it twenty minutes before judging.
Lime opens crisp, and black tea immediately gives it a dry edge. Cumin and smoked prunes arrive within seconds and close off that brightness. Cardamom and cinnamon set up the spicy side. There is nothing refreshing about the opening; it warns of what is to come.
Violet and iris powder the oud and strip away its medicinal side. Cypriol pulls it back toward earth and root. The fragrance then leaves the edible register for the mineral, and it is this passage that decides whether Amoral is for you. It grows calmer without growing sweeter.
Orange blossom softens the entry into the base, amber and sandalwood widen it, tonka bean closes it. The result is warm and dense. The sillage stays close to the body for the first hour, then settles in without ever becoming showy again.
Neither good nor evil, only the goal.
For lovers of spicy woods already familiar with dark fragrances. Cumin and smoked prune are divisive notes, and Amoral makes no attempt to make them likeable. If you are discovering Pernoire, Mansa and Tierra offer an easier way in.
Wear from October to March, preferably in the evening. One spray on the collar or lapel is enough to last the evening. The base clings to fabric and can still be smelled the next day.
Andreas Wilhelm is a perfumer based in Zurich. He wanted to become a goldsmith, but with no apprenticeships available, a guidance counselor steered him towards an apprenticeship as a chemistry lab technician at Givaudan in Dübendorf, in 1993. He then trained as a perfumer at Luzi from 1999. He opened his own studio in 2008 and has also been the in-house perfumer at Weleda.
In 2017, he launched his label PERFUME.SUCKS, which prints the full list of ingredients on every bottle. He says he starts by writing a formula on the computer, then adjusts it through trials. With his clients, he compares himself to the car, with the client at the wheel. He received an Art and Olfaction Award in 2023.
