Drinking alone under the moon

Inspired by Su Shi's poem “Prelude to Water Melody” (水调歌头), this fragrance sketches in a few strokes the bittersweet solitude of one who drinks alone beneath the moon: impermanence, nostalgia, lost friends. For Tianle Feng, “regret” is the eye of the whole composition — intense, yet resigned.

Borneol, one of the four traditional Chinese incenses, burned in eternal lamps, conveys the bitter cold of moonlight. Castoreum, a rare animalic note used in Chinese medicine against insomnia, evokes the warmth of rising tears. Together they give off a scent of ink — an unintended tribute to imperial ink, once prepared with borneol and musk.

Opening

A cool breeze, a clear moon: borneol, elemi, incense and wormwood over a veil of oakmoss.

Heart

Sandalwood and orris slow the rhythm, like moonlight filtered through a veil: a long, sleepless night.

Base

Castoreum contrasts with the sweetness of osmanthus and red bean paste, for a bittersweet effect. Cashmeran closes the fragrance on the softness of a silky fabric: the moon bathes the mountains and the heart.
