Sugi oil opens Sugidama with a green, resinous character. Lavender and bergamot accompany the opening, with warmth from saffron. Lily of the valley, white flowers and a solar accord form the heart, followed by cedar, guaiac wood, sandalwood and patchouli.
The name refers to the balls of sugi branches hung outside sake breweries, which change colour over time. The perfume draws on that connection between fresh greenery and wood. For another woody direction, compare it with the ink, paper and leather accords of The Print House.
A sugidama is a ball of sugi branches traditionally hung outside a sake brewery. This is the inspiration behind the perfume.
Sugi, lavender, bergamot and saffron meet floral notes and a base of cedar, guaiac wood, sandalwood and patchouli.

by Tada Parfumeur
A sugidama is a ball of cedar branches hung at the entrance of sake breweries. When green, it announces the start of brewing; once it has turned brown, it signals that the sake is ready.
The perfumer brought back sugi wood used for barrels after a trip to Kansai. The fragrance follows the same shift as the ball: from vivid to weathered.
Sugi oil opens resinous and green, like a freshly snapped branch. Lavender and bergamot give it air, and saffron warms it from beneath.
Lily of the valley and white flowers soften the resin while a solar note sets up the warmth. The cedar moves from green to dry.
Guaiac, sandalwood and patchouli close on a dense, slightly smoky wood. This is the sugidama turned brown, and the sake come to maturity.

For those looking for a clean woody scent, with no oud or vanilla to weigh it down. Wear it in fall and winter, by day or by night.
Tada Archawong is a self-taught Thai perfumer. He first worked as a director of photography. He launched his first brand, Natural Teller, after a year and a half of learning on his own. Today he runs two houses for which he signs the formulas, Tada Parfumeur and Shaman Perfumery. Along with his friend Prin Lomros, he is one of Thailand's first independent perfumers.
He composes from images. On his travels, often to Japan, he notes his ideas in a notebook, then looks for the materials that can render the scene he has in mind. He devoted a series of perfumes to Dante's Divine Comedy, built around Thai ouds. He has also worked with the sake house Emishiki on a sake accord.
