MysNyx: the Thai house of skin, marble and oud accords

Flacon de Real Skin N°Mys-01, MysNyx

MysNyx is a Thai niche perfume house whose perfumes are composed by its founder, Nick. It works through concepts rather than fragrance families: a skin, a block of marble, a tarot arcana, an oud from a specific terroir. At Passion Parfum, it is represented by nine perfumes split into two lines, the MysNyx collection in eau de parfum and the Lone Wolf collection in extrait.

The house and its founder

MysNyx belongs to the young independent Thai scene, which has grown a lot in recent years. Fragrantica lists the house under Thailand. Its founder, Nick, signs the compositions: he is named as the perfumer on our product pages and in the specialized databases.

The house says little about itself. We found no official website, no detailed biography of its founder and no published founding date. So we prefer to stick to what can be verified: the perfumes themselves, their formulas as the house provides them, their sizes and their presentation. The databases also list other creations outside the two lines covered here, such as Sanim, Merle or Gluta & Gollum, which we do not carry.

The olfactive style: material accords

An accord is a combination of several materials that produces a smell none of them has on its own. It is how perfumers recreate what cannot be distilled: a skin, a stone, ash, wet earth. MysNyx has made this its signature. In its formulas you find a skin accord in Real Skin, a marble accord and ashes in Palissandro Platinum, an earth accord in Death, a coffee blossom tea accord in Ceremonial Sip, and tar and smoke in Real Skin as well.

The pyramids are short, often four or five notes in all, which keeps each material legible. Alongside these abstract accords, the house readily uses animalic or leathery materials, castoreum, leather, labdanum, and fruity top notes that act as a counterpoint: apricot, passion fruit, blackcurrant, guava. The result is more about texture than bouquet. These are perfumes that ask for a little attention, and they suit people who have already explored niche perfumery better than complete beginners.

Two collections, two sizes

The range distributed in Europe is divided into two numbered lines, and the number appears in the name of each perfume.

  • The MysNyx collection (N°Mys-01 to N°Mys-06) brings together six eaux de parfum in 50 ml. These are the house's conceptual perfumes: skin, marble, tea, tarot. Their caps are 3D-printed in resin.
  • The Lone Wolf collection (N°Lon-01 to N°Lon-03) brings together three extraits de parfum in 30 ml, more concentrated and more expensive. Two of them put oud forward. They come with a black wood cap, in a wooden box for Film Noir and Home Town, and in a rigid magnetic box for Matsuri.

Prices follow the same logic. At Passion Parfum, the 50 ml eaux de parfum range from €140 to €160, the 30 ml extraits from €180 to €190. To understand what concentration changes on the skin, our article on the difference between extrait and eau de parfum explains it.

The MysNyx collection, in eau de parfum

Real Skin N°Mys-01 is a skin scent. Saffron opens, cinnamon bark and the skin accord form the heart, then tar, smoke and tonka bean. The skin accord gives a warm, musky impression, very close to the body, which the tonka rounds out and the tar darkens.

Ceremonial Sip N°Mys-02 is the lightest in the line. Violet leaf in the top, a coffee blossom tea accord and osmanthus in the heart, white tea in the base. Osmanthus brings its dried apricot and soft leather facet, while the violet leaf keeps the whole thing green. A perfume for daytime and warm weather.

Palissandro Platinum N°Mys-03 is built around a marble accord. Black pepper and juniper berry in the top, marble accord in the heart, ashes in the base. The opening recalls a peppery gin, then the perfume turns cool, dry and mineral. Its name is the Italian word for rosewood, but the perfume contains none and stays mineral.

The next three numbers are named after major arcana of the tarot. The Magician N°Mys-04, arcana I, is a green chypre: blackcurrant absolute in the top, black tea and oregano in the heart, oakmoss in the base. A retro structure, bitter and aromatic, that works well at the office.

The Emperor N°Mys-05, arcana IV, sets a juicy passion fruit against a very animalic base. Labdanum in the heart, then castoreum, leather and oak wood absolute. It is the most powerful in the collection, best kept for evenings and cold weather.

Death N°Mys-06, arcana XIII, is a perfume of roots and earth. Apricot opens briefly, then iris, incense and orris (Iris pallida) set up a powdery, resinous heart over a base of earth and vetiver. In the tarot, this card stands for transformation, and the perfume keeps a calm, introspective side.

The Lone Wolf collection, in extrait

Film Noir N°Lon-01 pairs a fleshy tuberose in the top with a heart of leather and a base of Burmese oud and castoreum. A dark, dense, very present perfume, where the white flower lights up the leather.

Home Town N°Lon-02 is a tribute to the ouds of Thailand. Guava leaf in the top, tree jasmine in the heart, then two regional ouds, one from Nakhon Si Thammarat, in the south of the country, and one from Trat, in the east near the Cambodian border. Thai ouds are often described as less animalic than other origins, with a fruity facet. Home Town gives a soft, woody version of it, approachable for people wary of oud.

Matsuri N°Lon-03 is inspired by traditional Japanese festivals. Umeshu, the Japanese plum liqueur, and frangipani in the top, incense in the heart, rum extract in the base. The most festive of the nine, gourmand and boozy, with incense to keep it from turning sweet.

Wearing MysNyx perfumes by season

Our product pages indicate for each perfume the seasons and occasions where it works best, and the split is fairly clear. Ceremonial Sip is the only one really designed for spring and summer, at the office or during the day. The Magician works in the transitional seasons, spring as well as fall, thanks to its green chypre structure. Palissandro Platinum and Death do well at the office in fall and winter, because their bases stay dry and fairly discreet.

The others need cold weather. Real Skin, The Emperor, Film Noir and Matsuri are fall and winter perfumes, better for the evening, with bases of leather, castoreum, oud or rum that quickly become overwhelming in hot weather. Home Town is the most versatile of the extraits and also works for everyday wear.

As for dosage, one or two sprays are enough for the Lone Wolf extraits. The eaux de parfum can take a little more, but their dense accords do not need to be pushed to be noticed.

Where to start with MysNyx

If you are new to the house, Ceremonial Sip is the easiest entry point: a clear, floral tea that shows the precision of the writing without its darkest aspects. If you like skin scents and smoky ambers, Real Skin sums up the idea of material accords well. For oud, Home Town is softer than Film Noir and helps you understand what a Thai oud brings.

All nine perfumes are available as 2 ml samples, shown on our samples page. With compositions this textured, a day on the skin tells you more than a paper strip: our guide to 2 ml samples explains how to go about it.

Frequently asked questions

Is MysNyx a niche brand?

Yes. MysNyx is a Thai author's house: its founder composes short formulas himself around unusual accords, presented in numbered series.

Who is the perfumer behind MysNyx?

The perfumes are composed by the house's founder, Nick. The house does not publish a detailed biography of its perfumer.

What is the difference between the MysNyx collection and the Lone Wolf collection?

The MysNyx collection brings together six 50 ml eaux de parfum built around concepts (skin, marble, tea, tarot arcana). The Lone Wolf collection brings together three 30 ml extraits de parfum, more concentrated, two of them built on oud.

Where can I buy MysNyx perfumes?

Passion Parfum offers all nine MysNyx perfumes in full bottles and 2 ml samples, shipped from our stock in France to the United States and across Europe.

Do MysNyx perfumes last well?

The Lone Wolf extraits, being more concentrated, should in principle last the longest, especially Film Noir with its oud and castoreum base. Among the eaux de parfum, The Emperor and Death have the most persistent bases, while Ceremonial Sip is the lightest.
